This position paper was submitted to the Knesset’s Constitution, Law, and Justice Committee by Zulat ahead of a discussion on the amendments proposed by MK Gilad Kariv, the Committee’s Chairman, to the Elections Law-1959 (Propaganda Methods). The paper proposes amendments that address the efforts to defraud voters.
The proposals are meant to update and reinforce existing law provisions and adapt them to the war against fake news, which aim to disrupt democratic and free elections, and at the same time address the need for and remain sensitive to freedom of expression.
