On February 17, 2025, a discussion was held in the Knesset’s Labor and Welfare Committee on the subject of women’s employment in the Arab sector. Attorney Tal Hillel, Zulat’s policy advocate, presented the Zulat report: “Central Barriers to Arab Women’s Employment in Israel: Public Transportation and Day Care Centres” by Attorney Shirin Batshon.
Attorney Tal Hillel said in the discussion that most Arab communities are not properly connected to employment centres, and public transportation in these communities suffers from accessibility and availability issues. Additionally, it was noted that the lack of childcare facilities for young children makes it difficult for Arab mothers to enter the workforce, since the number of subsidized day care centres in Arab communities is significantly lower than that of Jewish communities, making going to work economically unfeasible.
