On May 22, 2025, Zulat CEO Einat Ovadia participated in a Knesset National Security Committee meeting initiated by Knesset member Gilad Kariv on the subject of police violence in demonstrations.
Zulat’s CEO presented our bill proposals and the current legal problems, as reflected in the Zulat report, “The Legal Infrastructure for Suppressing Protest in Israel”: “The law in Israel today provides very weak protections for freedom of demonstration, alongside very draconian and extensive powers that the police has to use disproportionate force in demonstrations and dispersing demonstrations.”
Along with Zulat’s policy advocate Benzi Sikura, we presented to the Knesset members our proposals for improving the current situation: obligatory body documenting police officers’ actions, obligation to prosecute disproportionate use of force, and limiting the use of Border Guard units to extreme cases only.
